Router

Recommended โ€” covers every device on your network including Smart TVs

  1. 1

    Access Router Admin Panel

Open a browser and go to 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. Log in with your router credentials.

  2. 2

    Find DNS Settings

Look for WAN Settings, Internet Setup or DNS Configuration. Common paths: Advanced โ†’ WAN โ†’ DNS or Internet โ†’ DNS Server.

  3. 3

    Enter SmartDNS Addresses

Enter your primary SmartDNS DNS in Primary DNS and secondary in Secondary DNS.

  4. 4

    Save and Restart

Save and allow the router to restart. Every device on your network now has SmartDNS active โ€” phones, TVs, laptops, consoles, everything.

Best practice: Router configuration is the most powerful option. One change protects your entire household or office with no per-device setup.

Smart TV

Samsung, LG, Sony, Hisense and others

  1. 1

    Open Network Settings

Go to Settings โ†’ Network โ†’ Network Status or Settings โ†’ General โ†’ Network depending on your TV brand.

  2. 2

    Select DNS Settings

Find IP Settings or DNS Settings and change from Auto to Manual.

  3. 3

    Enter DNS Addresses

Enter your primary SmartDNS address. Add the secondary if a second DNS field is available.

  4. 4

    Save and Test

Confirm and save. Run a network test from your TV settings. SmartDNS is now active โ€” try opening Netflix or BBC iPlayer to verify.

Alternative: If your Smart TV doesn't support manual DNS, configure SmartDNS on your router instead โ€” this automatically covers your TV and all other devices.
